This specific portion of the Torah has rang like a resounding bell to me recently. I know better through it that my life is not my own - it belongs to the Lord; walking by faith and not by sight is so difficult when this is forgotten. Each day we must receive as a gift, without worry about the next (Matthew 6:34). We are to be stewards of each day in faith, not falling to the temptation to complete God’s promises through our own means like what was attempted through the bearing of Ishmael. Even then, the errors of Abram don’t thwart God’s own redemptive plan through Isaac. What freedom have we then to surrender our lives to his plans, trusting that He is indeed a good God who will guide us through His Holy Spirit.
I look forward to continually receiving bite-sized portions of this good meal!
