Great to have you back for this 4th week of the new annual cycle! If you are new to this parashah approach to Scripture, I want to encourage you to stay engaged. If you hang in there, things will become more accessible and get clearer and I am going to help you. These roots go deep…and the fruits are sweet. Relational fruits ;)
The name of this week’s portion is vaYera and literally means, “and He appeared.” The “He” in this case is God so I put ‘God’ in brackets in the title to make the subject of the sentence clear. God literally shows up to Abraham and announces Good News! At the bottom of this post is a link to the Parashah Project website where you can access the free devotional commentary to supplement and guide your Bible reading.
Speaking of Bible reading, I was super excited to see the story linked below in this video. Click on the link to this short video to hear about this important effort.
Love it! Apparently, what I call Tanachian Optics (or worldview) is the same thing these people are doing in trying to restore the “whole word to the whole world” by making the “Original Testament” accessible.
Have a great week and let me know if you have any questions or feedback by posting a comment.
Readings for the Week:
Torah: GENESIS 18:1–22:24
Prophets: 2 KINGS 4:1–37
Apostolic Writings: LUKE 1:26–38; 24:36-53
